PRACTICAL POS GUIDE · KENYACatalogue setup for vehicle service garage POS in Kenya
This guide to catalogue setup for vehicle service garage explains the daily checks. Prepare the vehicle service garage catalogue before the first sale: choose the selling unit, separate similar items and enter counted opening stock. This guide uses Oil change labour, Wheel alignment service and Inspection labour as examples.
Catalogue setup for vehicle service garage: decide what one quantity means
Record agreed labour services and parts as distinct line items. An oil-change service must specify whether oil and filter are included.
Define the service being charged and its fixed unit. Recording one service sale does not reserve an appointment, create a job card or track an item left for repair.
A starter catalogue to adapt
The figures below are illustrative preset prices, not market quotations. They do not describe your stock. Replace them before trading.
| Item or service | Sale unit | Sample KES price | Opening count |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oil change labour | task | 1,000 | Count actual units |
| Wheel alignment service | slot | 2,500 | Count actual units |
| Inspection labour | task | 1,500 | Count actual units |
| Brake inspection labour | task | 800 | Count actual units |
| Battery fitting labour | task | 350 | Count actual units |
| Air filter fitting labour | task | 250 | Count actual units |
Load and rehearse in this order
- Check that Oil change labour has a clear name, unit, price and unique item code.
- Distinguish Wheel alignment service from Oil change labour; a similar name must not hide a different pack.
- Count usable Oil change labour units and record that physical opening quantity.
- On sample records, sell two Oil change labour units and confirm only that item reduces by two.
- Review the receipt and backup before entering real business records.
Correct the catalogue without hiding a stock difference
If Oil change labour was named incorrectly, correct the name. If its quantity is wrong, investigate the count and record an explained adjustment. Editing a price or changing a description does not explain missing units. Keep old transactions readable when deciding how to rename an item.
