PRACTICAL POS GUIDE · KENYACatalogue setup for salon POS in Kenya
This guide to catalogue setup for salon explains the daily checks. Prepare the salon catalogue before the first sale: choose the selling unit, separate similar items and enter counted opening stock. This guide uses Wash & style, Braiding service and Hair treatment as examples.
Catalogue setup for salon: decide what one quantity means
Create fixed service items such as a wash or a defined styling service, and keep retail hair products as separate stocked items.
Define the service being charged and its fixed unit. Recording one service sale does not reserve an appointment, create a job card or track an item left for repair.
A starter catalogue to adapt
The figures below are illustrative preset prices, not market quotations. They do not describe your stock. Replace them before trading.
| Item or service | Sale unit | Sample KES price | Opening count |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wash & style | slot | 800 | Count actual units |
| Braiding service | slot | 2,500 | Count actual units |
| Hair treatment | slot | 1,200 | Count actual units |
| Natural hair twist session | session | 1,800 | Count actual units |
| Hair colouring short session | session | 1,500 | Count actual units |
| Wig fitting session | session | 1,000 | Count actual units |
Load and rehearse in this order
- Check that Wash & style has a clear name, unit, price and unique item code.
- Distinguish Braiding service from Wash & style; a similar name must not hide a different pack.
- Count usable Wash & style units and record that physical opening quantity.
- On sample records, sell two Wash & style units and confirm only that item reduces by two.
- Review the receipt and backup before entering real business records.
Correct the catalogue without hiding a stock difference
If Wash & style was named incorrectly, correct the name. If its quantity is wrong, investigate the count and record an explained adjustment. Editing a price or changing a description does not explain missing units. Keep old transactions readable when deciding how to rename an item.

Try the workflow before choosing your setup
The launch software licence is US.99 once for one business installation, including its branches and tills. Hardware, installation, hosting, support and future upgrades have separate terms. These planning guides do not activate a licence or deploy an installation.
