PRACTICAL POS GUIDE · KENYABarcode scanning for printing bureau POS in Kenya
This guide to barcode scanning for printing bureau explains the daily checks. Use barcode scanning to select the correct printing bureau selling unit. Test A4 colour print and A3 print separately before relying on a scanner at the counter.
Barcode scanning for printing bureau: start with the label, not the scanner
Different paper sizes, finishes and fixed print services need separate prices. State whether the quantity means copies, pages or complete jobs.
Service codes can speed selection of a defined charge. Scanning a service code does not open a job card or reserve an appointment.
A scanner acceptance sheet
| Action | Expected result |
|---|---|
| Scan A4 colour print once | One unit of A4 colour print, at its configured price |
| Scan A4 colour print again | Two units of A4 colour print |
| Scan A3 print | A separate A3 print line |
| Scan an unknown label | Stop and identify the item; do not substitute silently |
| Submit after a test scan | No accidental checkout or duplicate charge |
Set up a practical test
- Connect a compatible scanner that types into the barcode field.
- Focus the barcode field before scanning and check where the characters appear.
- Check the scanner suffix; an Enter key should select the intended item without completing an unintended action.
- Test a damaged label and an unknown code using sample records.
- On Android, verify camera scanning on the actual browser and device; availability is device-dependent.
Read the result before adding quantity
Check the displayed name, unit and price after scanning A4 colour print. A successful beep means the scanner read characters; it does not prove the selected item, configured price or entered stock is correct. Use a fresh basket when testing A3 print so the results are easy to distinguish.
