This guide to barcode scanning for photocopy shop explains the daily checks. Use barcode scanning to select the correct photocopy shop selling unit. Test A4 copy and A3 copy separately before relying on a scanner at the counter.
Barcode scanning for photocopy shop: start with the label, not the scanner
Separate black-and-white, colour and binding services. Decide whether duplex work is priced by printed side or physical sheet.
Service codes can speed selection of a defined charge. Scanning a service code does not open a job card or reserve an appointment.
A scanner acceptance sheet
| Action | Expected result |
|---|---|
| Scan A4 copy once | One unit of A4 copy, at its configured price |
| Scan A4 copy again | Two units of A4 copy |
| Scan A3 copy | A separate A3 copy line |
| Scan an unknown label | Stop and identify the item; do not substitute silently |
| Submit after a test scan | No accidental checkout or duplicate charge |
Set up a practical test
- Connect a compatible scanner that types into the barcode field.
- Focus the barcode field before scanning and check where the characters appear.
- Check the scanner suffix; an Enter key should select the intended item without completing an unintended action.
- Test a damaged label and an unknown code using sample records.
- On Android, verify camera scanning on the actual browser and device; availability is device-dependent.
Read the result before adding quantity
Check the displayed name, unit and price after scanning A4 copy. A successful beep means the scanner read characters; it does not prove the selected item, configured price or entered stock is correct. Use a fresh basket when testing A3 copy so the results are easy to distinguish.
