PRACTICAL POS GUIDE · KENYACatalogue setup for soft drinks depot POS in Kenya
This guide to catalogue setup for soft drinks depot explains the daily checks. Prepare the soft drinks depot catalogue before the first sale: choose the selling unit, separate similar items and enter counted opening stock. This guide uses Soda crate, Juice carton and Energy drink can as examples.
Catalogue setup for soft drinks depot: decide what one quantity means
Name the drink size and whether it is sold by bottle, pack or crate. A crate's beverage content and its reusable container are different things.
Describe the actual pack the customer receives. Avoid using the same entry for a sealed box and a loose piece unless the chosen stock workflow explicitly supports that conversion.
A starter catalogue to adapt
The figures below are illustrative preset prices, not market quotations. They do not describe your stock. Replace them before trading.
| Item or service | Sale unit | Sample KES price | Opening count |
|---|---|---|---|
| Soda crate | crate | 1,200 | Count actual units |
| Juice carton | carton | 850 | Count actual units |
| Energy drink can | piece | 180 | Count actual units |
| Soda carton cans | carton | 1,800 | Count actual units |
| Sparkling water carton | carton | 900 | Count actual units |
| Tonic water pack 6 | pack | 600 | Count actual units |
Load and rehearse in this order
- Check that Soda crate has a clear name, unit, price and unique item code.
- Distinguish Juice carton from Soda crate; a similar name must not hide a different pack.
- Count usable Soda crate units and record that physical opening quantity.
- On sample records, sell two Soda crate units and confirm only that item reduces by two.
- Review the receipt and backup before entering real business records.
Correct the catalogue without hiding a stock difference
If Soda crate was named incorrectly, correct the name. If its quantity is wrong, investigate the count and record an explained adjustment. Editing a price or changing a description does not explain missing units. Keep old transactions readable when deciding how to rename an item.
