PRACTICAL POS GUIDE · KENYACatalogue setup for shoe shop POS in Kenya
This guide to catalogue setup for shoe shop explains the daily checks. Prepare the shoe shop catalogue before the first sale: choose the selling unit, separate similar items and enter counted opening stock. This guide uses Sneakers, Sandals and School shoes as examples.
Catalogue setup for shoe shop: decide what one quantity means
Treat each shoe size, style and colour as its own stocked item. One pair should be a whole selling unit.
Create separate entries for the variants customers can buy. A different size or model needs its own stock count, even if it shares a family name with another item.
A starter catalogue to adapt
The figures below are illustrative preset prices, not market quotations. They do not describe your stock. Replace them before trading.
| Item or service | Sale unit | Sample KES price | Opening count |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sneakers | piece | 2,500 | Count actual units |
| Sandals | piece | 900 | Count actual units |
| School shoes | piece | 1,600 | Count actual units |
| Boots size 42 | piece | 3,200 | Count actual units |
| Slippers size 38 | piece | 350 | Count actual units |
| Shoe polish 50 ml | fixed pack | 150 | Count actual units |
Load and rehearse in this order
- Check that Sneakers has a clear name, unit, price and unique item code.
- Distinguish Sandals from Sneakers; a similar name must not hide a different pack.
- Count usable Sneakers units and record that physical opening quantity.
- On sample records, sell two Sneakers units and confirm only that item reduces by two.
- Review the receipt and backup before entering real business records.
Correct the catalogue without hiding a stock difference
If Sneakers was named incorrectly, correct the name. If its quantity is wrong, investigate the count and record an explained adjustment. Editing a price or changing a description does not explain missing units. Keep old transactions readable when deciding how to rename an item.
