PRACTICAL POS GUIDE · KENYACatalogue setup for plastic goods shop POS in Kenya
This guide to catalogue setup for plastic goods shop explains the daily checks. Prepare the plastic goods shop catalogue before the first sale: choose the selling unit, separate similar items and enter counted opening stock. This guide uses Bucket 20 L, Basin and Storage crate as examples.
Catalogue setup for plastic goods shop: decide what one quantity means
Record container capacity and pack count. Different sizes from the same manufacturer should not share a vague product entry.
Describe the actual pack the customer receives. Avoid using the same entry for a sealed box and a loose piece unless the chosen stock workflow explicitly supports that conversion.
A starter catalogue to adapt
The figures below are illustrative preset prices, not market quotations. They do not describe your stock. Replace them before trading.
| Item or service | Sale unit | Sample KES price | Opening count |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bucket 20 L | fixed pack | 350 | Count actual units |
| Basin | piece | 250 | Count actual units |
| Storage crate | crate | 650 | Count actual units |
| Dustbin 30 L | fixed pack | 650 | Count actual units |
| Plastic stool | piece | 450 | Count actual units |
| Laundry basket | piece | 550 | Count actual units |
Load and rehearse in this order
- Check that Bucket 20 L has a clear name, unit, price and unique item code.
- Distinguish Basin from Bucket 20 L; a similar name must not hide a different pack.
- Count usable Bucket 20 L units and record that physical opening quantity.
- On sample records, sell two Bucket 20 L units and confirm only that item reduces by two.
- Review the receipt and backup before entering real business records.
Correct the catalogue without hiding a stock difference
If Bucket 20 L was named incorrectly, correct the name. If its quantity is wrong, investigate the count and record an explained adjustment. Editing a price or changing a description does not explain missing units. Keep old transactions readable when deciding how to rename an item.
