PRACTICAL POS GUIDE · KENYACatalogue setup for laundry POS in Kenya
This guide to catalogue setup for laundry explains the daily checks. Prepare the laundry catalogue before the first sale: choose the selling unit, separate similar items and enter counted opening stock. This guide uses Wash & fold / kg, Suit dry clean and Iron shirt as examples.
Catalogue setup for laundry: decide what one quantity means
Use defined service units such as one shirt, one duvet or a fixed bag. Avoid recording a variable-weight load as a vague quantity of one.
Define the service being charged and its fixed unit. Recording one service sale does not reserve an appointment, create a job card or track an item left for repair.
A starter catalogue to adapt
The figures below are illustrative preset prices, not market quotations. They do not describe your stock. Replace them before trading.
| Item or service | Sale unit | Sample KES price | Opening count |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wash & fold / kg | slot | 200 | Count actual units |
| Suit dry clean | slot | 700 | Count actual units |
| Iron shirt | slot | 80 | Count actual units |
| Blanket wash per piece | piece | 450 | Count actual units |
| Curtain wash fixed pair | pair | 600 | Count actual units |
| Trouser dry clean per piece | piece | 250 | Count actual units |
Load and rehearse in this order
- Check that Wash & fold / kg has a clear name, unit, price and unique item code.
- Distinguish Suit dry clean from Wash & fold / kg; a similar name must not hide a different pack.
- Count usable Wash & fold / kg units and record that physical opening quantity.
- On sample records, sell two Wash & fold / kg units and confirm only that item reduces by two.
- Review the receipt and backup before entering real business records.
Correct the catalogue without hiding a stock difference
If Wash & fold / kg was named incorrectly, correct the name. If its quantity is wrong, investigate the count and record an explained adjustment. Editing a price or changing a description does not explain missing units. Keep old transactions readable when deciding how to rename an item.
