PRACTICAL POS GUIDE · KENYA

Catalogue setup for fish shop POS in Kenya

This guide to catalogue setup for fish shop explains the daily checks. Prepare the fish shop catalogue before the first sale: choose the selling unit, separate similar items and enter counted opening stock. This guide uses Tilapia whole, Fish fillet 500 g and Omena 250 g as examples.

Catalogue setup for fish shop: decide what one quantity means

Distinguish a whole fish, a prepared pack and a fixed serving in the catalogue. Confirm what the customer receives for one recorded unit.

A piece, labelled pack or fixed container must have an unambiguous size. Do not label a variable-weight product as one generic unit and expect the POS to measure it.

A starter catalogue to adapt

The figures below are illustrative preset prices, not market quotations. They do not describe your stock. Replace them before trading.

Load and rehearse in this order

  1. Check that Tilapia whole has a clear name, unit, price and unique item code.
  2. Distinguish Fish fillet 500 g from Tilapia whole; a similar name must not hide a different pack.
  3. Count usable Tilapia whole units and record that physical opening quantity.
  4. On sample records, sell two Tilapia whole units and confirm only that item reduces by two.
  5. Review the receipt and backup before entering real business records.

Correct the catalogue without hiding a stock difference

If Tilapia whole was named incorrectly, correct the name. If its quantity is wrong, investigate the count and record an explained adjustment. Editing a price or changing a description does not explain missing units. Keep old transactions readable when deciding how to rename an item.
