PRACTICAL POS GUIDE · KENYABarcode scanning for barbershop POS in Kenya
This guide to barcode scanning for barbershop explains the daily checks. Use barcode scanning to select the correct barbershop selling unit. Test Haircut and Beard trim separately before relying on a scanner at the counter.
Barcode scanning for barbershop: start with the label, not the scanner
Define each haircut or grooming service clearly, including any separately charged extras. Keep products sold over the counter in their own stock items.
Service codes can speed selection of a defined charge. Scanning a service code does not open a job card or reserve an appointment.
A scanner acceptance sheet
| Action | Expected result |
|---|---|
| Scan Haircut once | One unit of Haircut, at its configured price |
| Scan Haircut again | Two units of Haircut |
| Scan Beard trim | A separate Beard trim line |
| Scan an unknown label | Stop and identify the item; do not substitute silently |
| Submit after a test scan | No accidental checkout or duplicate charge |
Set up a practical test
- Connect a compatible scanner that types into the barcode field.
- Focus the barcode field before scanning and check where the characters appear.
- Check the scanner suffix; an Enter key should select the intended item without completing an unintended action.
- Test a damaged label and an unknown code using sample records.
- On Android, verify camera scanning on the actual browser and device; availability is device-dependent.
Read the result before adding quantity
Check the displayed name, unit and price after scanning Haircut. A successful beep means the scanner read characters; it does not prove the selected item, configured price or entered stock is correct. Use a fresh basket when testing Beard trim so the results are easy to distinguish.
Scanner checks to complete
