PRACTICAL POS GUIDE · KENYACatalogue setup for mattress shop POS in Kenya
This guide to catalogue setup for mattress shop explains the daily checks. Prepare the mattress shop catalogue before the first sale: choose the selling unit, separate similar items and enter counted opening stock. This guide uses Mattress 3×6, Mattress 4×6 and Mattress protector as examples.
Catalogue setup for mattress shop: decide what one quantity means
Identify bed size, thickness and mattress type. Similar packaging should not obscure different models or prices.
Create separate entries for the variants customers can buy. A different size or model needs its own stock count, even if it shares a family name with another item.
A starter catalogue to adapt
The figures below are illustrative preset prices, not market quotations. They do not describe your stock. Replace them before trading.
| Item or service | Sale unit | Sample KES price | Opening count |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mattress 3×6 | piece | 6,500 | Count actual units |
| Mattress 4×6 | piece | 9,500 | Count actual units |
| Mattress protector | piece | 1,200 | Count actual units |
| Mattress 5×6 | piece | 12,500 | Count actual units |
| Mattress 6×6 | piece | 16,500 | Count actual units |
| Pillow single | piece | 450 | Count actual units |
Load and rehearse in this order
- Check that Mattress 3×6 has a clear name, unit, price and unique item code.
- Distinguish Mattress 4×6 from Mattress 3×6; a similar name must not hide a different pack.
- Count usable Mattress 3×6 units and record that physical opening quantity.
- On sample records, sell two Mattress 3×6 units and confirm only that item reduces by two.
- Review the receipt and backup before entering real business records.
Correct the catalogue without hiding a stock difference
If Mattress 3×6 was named incorrectly, correct the name. If its quantity is wrong, investigate the count and record an explained adjustment. Editing a price or changing a description does not explain missing units. Keep old transactions readable when deciding how to rename an item.
