Stock counting for mobile phone shop: count the same unit that you sell
Distinguish model, storage capacity and colour. A demonstration handset should not be counted as a sealed retail phone without a deliberate status change.
Count each size, colour or model separately. An excess of one variant does not cancel a shortage of another when customers need a specific item.

Expected stock = opening units + received units − sold units, before returns or adjustments. Here 20 + 10 − 4 = 26. The physical count is one lower. Check deliveries, damage and unrecorded movement before deciding the reason.
Investigate before changing the balance
- Recount Feature phone model A using the catalogue unit.
- Check that a delivery of Smartphone model B was not entered against Feature phone model A.
- Compare receiving records and sales within the same branch and period.
- Separate damage, quarantine and customer returns from normal usable stock.
- Record the reason for a supported adjustment and keep the count evidence.
