PRACTICAL POS GUIDE · KENYACatalogue setup for mobile phone shop POS in Kenya
This guide to catalogue setup for mobile phone shop explains the daily checks. Prepare the mobile phone shop catalogue before the first sale: choose the selling unit, separate similar items and enter counted opening stock. This guide uses Feature phone model A, Smartphone model B and Phone charger as examples.
Catalogue setup for mobile phone shop: decide what one quantity means
Distinguish model, storage capacity and colour. A demonstration handset should not be counted as a sealed retail phone without a deliberate status change.
Create separate entries for the variants customers can buy. A different size or model needs its own stock count, even if it shares a family name with another item.
A starter catalogue to adapt
The figures below are illustrative preset prices, not market quotations. They do not describe your stock. Replace them before trading.
| Item or service | Sale unit | Sample KES price | Opening count |
|---|---|---|---|
| Feature phone model A | piece | 2,500 | Count actual units |
| Smartphone model B | piece | 14,000 | Count actual units |
| Phone charger | piece | 650 | Count actual units |
| Smartphone model C | piece | 18,000 | Count actual units |
| Feature phone model D | piece | 3,200 | Count actual units |
| Phone battery model A | piece | 1,500 | Count actual units |
Load and rehearse in this order
- Check that Feature phone model A has a clear name, unit, price and unique item code.
- Distinguish Smartphone model B from Feature phone model A; a similar name must not hide a different pack.
- Count usable Feature phone model A units and record that physical opening quantity.
- On sample records, sell two Feature phone model A units and confirm only that item reduces by two.
- Review the receipt and backup before entering real business records.
Correct the catalogue without hiding a stock difference
If Feature phone model A was named incorrectly, correct the name. If its quantity is wrong, investigate the count and record an explained adjustment. Editing a price or changing a description does not explain missing units. Keep old transactions readable when deciding how to rename an item.

Product fit for this business
Separate sizes, colours and models can use separate items. Serial numbers, IMEI custody, warranty and repair ledgers are not included.
All amounts and product movements on this page are illustrative. The public demo uses sample records. Use an isolated test installation for rehearsal and replace sample prices and counts before real trading.
