PRACTICAL POS GUIDE · KENYACatalogue setup for spice shop POS in Kenya
This guide to catalogue setup for spice shop explains the daily checks. Prepare the spice shop catalogue before the first sale: choose the selling unit, separate similar items and enter counted opening stock. This guide uses Pilau masala 100 g, Turmeric 100 g and Cinnamon 50 g as examples.
Catalogue setup for spice shop: decide what one quantity means
Name the spice and sealed pack weight. Keep blends separate from their individual ingredients.
Describe the actual pack the customer receives. Avoid using the same entry for a sealed box and a loose piece unless the chosen stock workflow explicitly supports that conversion.
A starter catalogue to adapt
The figures below are illustrative preset prices, not market quotations. They do not describe your stock. Replace them before trading.

Load and rehearse in this order
- Check that Pilau masala 100 g has a clear name, unit, price and unique item code.
- Distinguish Turmeric 100 g from Pilau masala 100 g; a similar name must not hide a different pack.
- Count usable Pilau masala 100 g units and record that physical opening quantity.
- On sample records, sell two Pilau masala 100 g units and confirm only that item reduces by two.
- Review the receipt and backup before entering real business records.
Correct the catalogue without hiding a stock difference
If Pilau masala 100 g was named incorrectly, correct the name. If its quantity is wrong, investigate the count and record an explained adjustment. Editing a price or changing a description does not explain missing units. Keep old transactions readable when deciding how to rename an item.
