PRACTICAL POS GUIDE · KENYACatalogue setup for egg distributor POS in Kenya
This guide to catalogue setup for egg distributor explains the daily checks. Prepare the egg distributor catalogue before the first sale: choose the selling unit, separate similar items and enter counted opening stock. This guide uses Egg tray 30, Egg pack 6 and Egg box fixed count as examples.
Catalogue setup for egg distributor: decide what one quantity means
Make tray count and pack count explicit. Broken eggs must be removed from saleable quantities rather than hidden inside a delivery total.
A piece, labelled pack or fixed container must have an unambiguous size. Do not label a variable-weight product as one generic unit and expect the POS to measure it.
A starter catalogue to adapt
The figures below are illustrative preset prices, not market quotations. They do not describe your stock. Replace them before trading.
| Item or service | Sale unit | Sample KES price | Opening count |
|---|---|---|---|
| Egg tray 30 | tray | 450 | Count actual units |
| Egg pack 6 | pack | 100 | Count actual units |
| Egg box fixed count | box | 2,700 | Count actual units |
| Egg pack 12 | pack | 200 | Count actual units |
| Quail egg pack 12 | pack | 180 | Count actual units |
| Empty egg tray | tray | 30 | Count actual units |
Load and rehearse in this order
- Check that Egg tray 30 has a clear name, unit, price and unique item code.
- Distinguish Egg pack 6 from Egg tray 30; a similar name must not hide a different pack.
- Count usable Egg tray 30 units and record that physical opening quantity.
- On sample records, sell two Egg tray 30 units and confirm only that item reduces by two.
- Review the receipt and backup before entering real business records.
Correct the catalogue without hiding a stock difference
If Egg tray 30 was named incorrectly, correct the name. If its quantity is wrong, investigate the count and record an explained adjustment. Editing a price or changing a description does not explain missing units. Keep old transactions readable when deciding how to rename an item.
