PRACTICAL POS GUIDE · KENYACatalogue setup for watch shop POS in Kenya
This guide to catalogue setup for watch shop explains the daily checks. Prepare the watch shop catalogue before the first sale: choose the selling unit, separate similar items and enter counted opening stock. This guide uses Digital watch, Watch strap and Watch battery fitting as examples.
Catalogue setup for watch shop: decide what one quantity means
Separate watch models and straps by fitting size. A replacement battery service should be a service item rather than a watch stock item.
Create separate entries for the variants customers can buy. A different size or model needs its own stock count, even if it shares a family name with another item.
A starter catalogue to adapt
The figures below are illustrative preset prices, not market quotations. They do not describe your stock. Replace them before trading.
| Item or service | Sale unit | Sample KES price | Opening count |
|---|---|---|---|
| Digital watch | piece | 1,800 | Count actual units |
| Watch strap | piece | 450 | Count actual units |
| Watch battery fitting | piece | 300 | Count actual units |
| Analogue watch model A | piece | 2,500 | Count actual units |
| Watch bracelet fitting labour | task | 250 | Count actual units |
| Watch case | piece | 350 | Count actual units |
Load and rehearse in this order
- Check that Digital watch has a clear name, unit, price and unique item code.
- Distinguish Watch strap from Digital watch; a similar name must not hide a different pack.
- Count usable Digital watch units and record that physical opening quantity.
- On sample records, sell two Digital watch units and confirm only that item reduces by two.
- Review the receipt and backup before entering real business records.
Correct the catalogue without hiding a stock difference
If Digital watch was named incorrectly, correct the name. If its quantity is wrong, investigate the count and record an explained adjustment. Editing a price or changing a description does not explain missing units. Keep old transactions readable when deciding how to rename an item.
