PRACTICAL POS GUIDE · KENYAStock counting for tailoring service POS in Kenya
This guide to stock counting for tailoring service explains the daily checks. Reconcile the physical count of Trouser alteration with deliveries and sales. A stock difference should be explained before it is adjusted.
Stock counting for tailoring service: count the same unit that you sell
Use defined services such as a trouser alteration or a finished garment sale. Separate a service charge from fabric sold.
For services, a quantity may represent a defined sale unit rather than physical shelf stock. Do not treat it as a booking or staff availability calendar.
Worked reconciliation
| Movement | Trouser alteration units |
|---|---|
| Opening usable count | 20 |
| Received from supplier | +10 |
| Sold | −4 |
| Expected remaining | 26 |
| Physical count | 25 |
| Difference to investigate | −1 |
Expected stock = opening units + received units − sold units, before returns or adjustments. Here 20 + 10 − 4 = 26. The physical count is one lower. Check deliveries, damage and unrecorded movement before deciding the reason.
Investigate before changing the balance
- Recount Trouser alteration using the catalogue unit.
- Check that a delivery of Dress alteration was not entered against Trouser alteration.
- Compare receiving records and sales within the same branch and period.
- Separate damage, quarantine and customer returns from normal usable stock.
- Record the reason for a supported adjustment and keep the count evidence.
What the worksheet leaves out
This worksheet covers opening units, receipts and sales only. Add recorded returns, voids and adjustments when reconciling real records. It is not a stock reservation service, a batch allocator or proof that two offline devices have the same available balance.

Defined service units can be sold. Booking calendars, commissions, custody records and specialist job cards are not included.
All amounts and product movements on this page are illustrative. The public demo uses sample records. Use an isolated test installation for rehearsal and replace sample prices and counts before real trading.
